Continuous improvement, an expression some of us are all too familiar with. The acceptance of complacency in a continually growing and varying market simply equates to stagnation. Here at Aerofin our service is continually evolving to meet our customers’ needs in an increasingly demanding market place. Alongside process control testing, we are seeing increasing amounts of process qualification testing with initiatives such as REACH. In these situations we have to be responsive to our customers’ requirements. As an independent privately-owned laboratory/test facility Aerofin have to be aware, flexible and receptive to new ideas and the demands of our customers and the wider surface coatings market place. This was certainly the case when we were recently approached by Jim Rowbotham of Pexa regarding Bombardier in receipt testing of paint. Bombardier have a requirement that batches of paint are tested upon receipt of the Bombardier supplier from the manufacturer to ensure they are compliant. This suite of testing is something that Aerofin has conducted previously on a small scale for existing customers, however it was Jim’s plan that

Aerofin Laboratories can conduct qualitative & quantitative tests for evaluating the adhesion of organic and inorganic coatings on various substrates. Methods include: Pull off testing, Bend, Burnishing, Chisel-Knife, File, Grind-Saw, Heat-Quench, Impact, Peel and Scribe-Grid-Tape testing.
Many adhesion methods require conditioning or exposure to a specific environment prior to test. Aerofin Laboratories have the facilities to subject test pieces to humidity, Temperature, immersion and corrosion salt spray to name a few.
