As an independent privately-owned laboratory/test facility Aerofin have to be aware, flexible and receptive to new ideas and the demands of our customers and the wider surface coatings market place. This was certainly the case when we were recently approached by Jim Rowbotham of Pexa regarding Bombardier in receipt testing of paint. Bombardier have a requirement that batches of paint are tested upon receipt of the Bombardier supplier from the manufacturer to ensure they are compliant. This suite of testing is something that Aerofin has conducted previously on a small scale for existing customers, however it was Jim’s plan that the paint could be certificated at distributor level. Thus, alleviating the strain placed on the paint shop to procure a Bombardier approved test house to conduct the testing at not insignificant cost. Aerofin could certificate a batch of paint and the certificates could be circulated as appropriate. Bombardier were consulted and gave their approval to proceed. Aerofin are now six months in to conducting this testing with several batches complete and multiple batches progressing through the various test stages. Early feedback has shown that this will be a successful and efficient solution going forward.
Aerofin Managing Director Paul French has always been aware that paint testing in its many guises may offer the opportunity for future Aerofin expansion. Aerofin are equipped to offer a wide range testing to satisfy the needs of the surface treatment and paint industries. We believe they are not exclusive of one another. We currently offer a diverse range of testing from scratch hardness testing, jet fuel resistance, filiform and accelerated environment testing to name a few.
